Adam L. Hughes
Adam was born in Portland, Oregon, but spent most of his childhood years in Kansas City, Missouri and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Adam received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry in 2002 from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and completed his PhD training in 2008 with Peter Espenshade at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. After his PhD, Adam trained as a postdoctoral fellow with Dan Gottschling at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center in Seattle until 2014. Since 2014, Adam has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Utah. Adam’s areas of research interest and expertise include metabolite sensing, organelle biology, aging, and protein quality control. During his career, Adam has received several honors, including a Helen Hay Whitney Postdoctoral Fellowship, an NIH Pathway to Independence Award, a Searle Scholars Award, and a Glenn Award for Research in the Biological Mechanisms of Aging. Away from the lab, Adam enjoys camping, hiking, relaxing, playing sports, and traveling with his family, drinking coffee, and watching his two kids grow up way too fast.
